How to Rabbet Vessel Candle Staves
Batch Size: 16 candles
Time Standard: 30 minutes
Install the dado blade stack on the table saw. The inner parts need to be added with a paper spacer in between and evenly spaced
2. Use the dado stack table saw throat plate.
3. Select two staves that look similar on the outside and ideally have similar curvature. Clamp them in the rabbeting jig with the ripped edge against the middle bar, and staves centered on the middle bar. In theory the staves should be the same length as the bar, but it is unlikely they are exact.
4. Press the stave clamped in the rabbeting jig against the stave tip end on the right side. Pass this through the dado blade stack. After the first pass, remove the stave tip and move the rabbeting jig slightly to the right to remove any extra material and run it through the dado blade stack again.
After you've finished the second pass, you should have removed about 1/8" of material for the rabbet.
5. Repeat step 4, but to the left this time.
Based on the color cutting positions, line up the parts according to the template.
Once you remove the parts, the end should sit flush in the rabbet you just created.
If the end sticks out from the rabbet this means the staves are a little longer than whatever you touched off of in steps 4 or 5. This can typically be fixed by touching off of the staves, not the middle bar.

Put the parts together on a cart to move to the next station.
!!! Keep the candle parts together in sets to ensure they get assembled together. This is the only way to make sure things fit together properly when you assemble the candle !!!
