How to Sand Stave Serving Tray Handles
Batch Size: 84
Time Standard: 90 minutes
Grab the oldest crate of handles that are staged on the sand land drop zone.
Make sure the dust collection system is turned on and that the dust collection blast gate is open.
NOTE: make sure that the drum sander blast gate is closed to improve vacuum efficiency.
If the sanding belt seems clogged make sure to use the cleaning rubber to remove as much of the debris as possible.
If the belt seems to worn, change the belt; This is explained on the belt sander guide.
To sand the handle only needs to make contact with the belt sander, you do not need to apply any extra pressure, let the belt sander do the work. Too much pressure will flatten any rounded edges and will need to be re-sanded to remove any hard edges.
Use the belt sander to sand the top, sides, and bottom of the handle. When sanding, the goal is to remove any of the raised grain and should feel equally sanded all throughout.
NOTE: use 150 git sanding belt
Use the oscillating tool to sand the insides of the handle. You do not need to use a lot of pressure, when sanding, the goal is to remove any of the raised grain and should feel equally sanded all throughout.
The inside of the handle should feel as smooth as the top of the handle.
NOTE: use 180 git sandpaper
NOTE: Too much pressure on the oscillating tool will cause the hook and loop adhesive to melt and come off. always maintain light pressure.
Use the random orbital sander to remove any imperfections on front and backs of the handle i.e. stains, print letters, sharpie marks etc.
NOTE: use 150 git sandpaper
