How to Make Glue/Sawdust Crack Filler
For filling cracks in Barrel Rounds,
Needed Materials:
Wood Glue, Sawdust from drum sander (very fine dust is the best, the more fine, the better, no big chunks) mixing bowl, scrap piece of wood to use as mixing tool, scraper, water & sponge
First you need Wood glue & about 1 cup of saw dust
Place say dust into mixing bowl
Add small amount of glue, glue must be added in steps not all at once.
Mix with scrap piece of woods, using a more mashing technique than stirring.
This is what it will look like after the first mixing
Add more glue & repeat until mixture becomes like a paste
Mixture should look pretty much like this
Apply filler with hand or blue scrapers, rubber gloves may help, but when I used them, they just tore, mixture will wash off easily with water while still wet.Â
Spread filler into cracks, pressing firmly to get as much into crack as possible
Spread completely over gap, excess filler is expected
Remove as much excess filler as possible with scrapper
This is what it should look like after scrapping
Use wet sponge to remove any excess filler
Use rough side of sponge going across the gap, not with the gap, may need to rinse sponge multiple times depending on amount of excess.
Wipe with dry cloth, again going across the gap not with, so to not remove any filler
This should be your finished product. Sit aside to dry, needs at least 3 hours of drying.
Leftover filler can be stored either with a lid on the bowl, covered with plastic wrap or a zip lock bag, making sure to close said bag, if possible remove as much air as you can, but just mostly make sure it's covered.
If at any point you notice the mixture getting stiff and/or turning a darker brown, then it has been left out too long and has begun to dry up.
Mixing: 10-15mins MAX
Time to fill 5 rounds: Roughly 25mins
