How to Cut Barrel Hoop Sign Blanks

Batch Size: 10

Time Standard: ##

Set fence on Miter Saw using the Barrel Hoop Sign Blank. Length is 23-7/8".
Rip blanks down on table saw using rip blade. They are 5.5" wide. You can be creative with the cut to avoid knots, since we only get 1 board out of each piece.  Put the scrap in the scrap wood boxes.
Using the hoop jig, place the wood blank with the good face down and the best edge up. **additional instructions are on the jig**
Place the hoop on top of the board with the wider side down.
Trace the inside of the ring.
Using a sharpie, mark locations to drill holes for screws in the hoop about 3/8" up from the bottom, and 1" inside the top and bottom edge. Repeat for both sides.
Remove the blank from the jig and clamp down. Cut to the outside of the pencil line with the jigsaw starting from the bottom and going towards the top.
Using a Sharpie, number both parts using a piece of masking tape on the hoop and writing directly on the edge you just cut on the wood sign.  This way you can match them up for final assembly.
A light sand with a ROS using 80 grit may be necessary on the front face of the hoop especially.  Do not send something to be stained that has printing on either side of the wood.
