What is Kanban?
Kanban is a visual inventory tracking system that utilizes simple paper cards to trigger reordering once the remaining inventory is below a pre-established quantity.
How it works
A kanban card with details about the reordering process is stored with the pre-established Reorder Trigger Quantity (RTQ).
The RTQ should be physically separated from the rest of the inventory so it is the last inventory to be used, and the employee can easily discern that the RTQ has been triggered.
Once RTQ is triggered, the employee takes the kaban card to a central collection location where someone who occupies a pre-assigned role will be responsible for ordering or producing replenishment inventory.
