How to convert 8' Flourescent Fixture to LED
NOTE: Turn off the power to the fixture before messing with electrical. This process converts old fluorescent fixtures that require ballasts by bypassing the ballast and using LED lights.
This pertains to the overhead lights, they can be reached with the large rolling ladder from the workshop.
On the side where power comes into the light fixture, remove the wire nuts and cut the long white and black wires that lead to the ballast at the same length as the shorter white and black wires. Strip 3/4" from the new short wires as well as the sides that lead to the ballast. Combine all four black wires with a wire nut, and all four white wires with another wire nut.
Cut the wires leading into the ballast as close to the ballast as possible. Strip 3/4" from the ends of the white, black, blue, and red wires. Then using a wire nut, combine the white and blue wire. In the same manner, combine the black and red wire wirh a wire nut.
Close everything up and install the new LED bulbs. Remove the protective plastic covering from the bulbs. Use one of these plastic covers to support the middle of the bulb by wrapping around the bulb and the fixture twice and tying it on top.
